Katie Garner

Hi, my name is Katie Garner and I’m excited to share my work with you.

Art has always been an important part of my life. I received a BFA in oil painting from WSU in 1996 then went on to work at UW designing, coding and maintaining web sites for the Evans School of Public Affairs.

When my first child arrived, I left that job to become a full-time mother and mostly neglected art in favor of the whirl of family life. It wasn’t until my oldest was in middle school that I began to paint again.

At that point, I started experimenting with acrylics. They offered many of the things I love about oils as well as some fun new possibilities. It’s taken some time but I’m finally able to make paintings that I truly enjoy creating.

For me, inspiration comes from light, color and texture. It could be a flower I found along the way or a landscape that makes me think ‘what if.’ I enjoy making art that is fun and beautiful as well as paintings that, I hope, speak their truth a bit more.

I hope you find something in my work to enjoy.
