Doug Martindale received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA in 1986. Since then, he has successfully shown his pastel landscape original works and limited edition prints in numerous galleries primarily in Washington, Idaho and California.
“The thought process in my mind when I begin a new painting is to ask myself this: How do I make this scene I am about to paint become this beautiful idealistic place where my viewer would be totally comfortable and relaxed being lost in it for any particular length of time? . When a viewer looks at my art, I am hoping that he or she can completely lose their daily troubles, if even for an instant, just to feel like they are in this beautiful perfectly safe place, and that is all that matters when viewing my art. If I can achieve this then I feel I have done my job as an artist. I want that viewer to feel just as special as the pristine, perfect scene he or she is viewing.”
When asked to comment further on his work, Doug adds, “While I feel I have my own definite stamp on works I create, some of my favorite works by other artists are probably by Thomas Hart Benton, Grant Wood, and I love the detailed intricate illustrative quality of landscape works by Maxfield Parrish. As artists I believe we all give to each other and continue to influence each other throughout time, as it should be.” Now a resident of Spokane, Doug continues to portray the gift of nature to all in his ever growing portfolio of engaging imagery.
