Purchase Care

To get the most out of your candle burning, remember these simple rules:

  • Candles fade if exposed to bright light for extended periods of time.

  • Always burn pillar candles long enough to create a pool of wax across most of the diameter of the candle.

  • Keep wicks trimmed, trim to ¼ inch at the start of each burn.

  • Keep lit candles out of drafts.

  • After extinguishing the candle, make sure the wick does not curl over into the melt pool.

Burning the candle long enough to create a pool of wax across most of the diameter of the candle will prevent your candle from forming a canyon in its center. This is typically an hour per inch of diameter but because we make these candles longer burning, 1 1/2 to 2 hours per inch of diameter may be required. Burning your candle this way will also set its memory and each time you light the candle it will ‘remember’ to burn to the rim. Burning your candle for too short a time will cause the wick to be buried and burning for too long will cause the melt pool to spill over which can be a fire hazard.

Keeping the wick trimmed is essential for a safe, clean, smoke free burn. This is true for all types of candles. If your candle is smoking despite trimming the wick and checking for debris in the melt pool, extinguish the candle. Trim the wick again a little more and let the candle cool before re-lighting. This should stop the smoking. Remember that heavily scented candles will typically smoke more than unscented.
